ESF Forward Look on 'Mathematics and Industry'

The European Mathematical Society is currently involved in a "Forward Look Project" aimed at developing a European vision and policy recommendations on the interactions and synergy between Mathematics and economy (Industries, Companies, Banks, Insurances, etc.).

The three working groups ("Training and careers", "Interfaces between Mathematics and Industry", and "Opportunities and Challenges") are finalising their report that will be presented at a Consensus Conference that will be held in Madrid on the 26^th and 27^th of April 2010.

The Chairman of the Scientific Organising Committee, Mario Primicerio, would like:

to disseminate the information on the project and in particular on the Madrid Conference (see the announcement);
to invite as many mathematicians as possible to fill in the Questionnaire that has been prepared [username=password=questionaire] (see the request containing the relevant instructions);
to send names and e-mail address of the research groups and laboratories that have experience in industrial mathematics and that could be interested in seeing their activity duly quoted in our reports to mathind@math.unifi.it

Compendium of Mathematics-in-Industry Activities

This compendium of noteworthy mathematics-in-industry projects and programmes is an addendum to the June 2008 Report on Mathematics in Industry. It was prepared by an Experts Group, some of whose members were appointed by GSF delegates while others had participated in the earlier activity. The new material should be a useful, practical reference regarding the options available to those (in industry, academia, or government) who wish to strengthen the links between academic mathematics and industry. This catalogue is not complete, and material may be added in the future.
